Mr Muftah, an employee at the General National Maritime Company (GNMTC) decides to start a wholesale business. The first shop was opened in the old city and had no name. Mr Muftah started by selling cloths, and household items at the wholesale prices. He was happy with a very small profit margin against selling large quantities. It was later named Al Hayes, which means cluttered goods, because the goods were displayed in boxes and baskets on the ground and customers kept causing the items to become a clutter of disorganized items displaced all over the place, hence the shop got its name Al Hayes.
